Can we build a system for analysing judicial decisions at scale

Brainbox collaborated with Openlaw NZ to build an open source research tool for analysing case law at scale. In the process, we outlined a superior system of judicial publishing that would increase access to judicial decisions.

To our knowledge, this report is the first to outline how judicial publishing works in New Zealand at a technological level.

Brainbox engaged in meetings with a range of stakeholders in the legal system, including members of the judiciary.

We argue that there is inequitable access to judgments as primary legal materials through a few multinational companies and call for change.
